Day 9 - Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

No pulse? No problem. That is the business card of Dylan, the main character in tonight's movie. He is a private eye who fights for undead rights. He is the line in the sand between the things that go bump in the night and the humans. And for the most part, he sides with the monsters.

We picked this one out of the list because it was in the "Zombie Movie" category on Netflix. If it wasn't for this month of trying to watch every zombie movie we can find, I don't think I would have picked this one out. It's cover and short description just didn't jump out at me. After watching it, however, I really would recommend this movie.

It isn't so much a zombie movie in the normal sense. It is more like a crime drama that just happens to have zombies in it. He even has a comic relief zombie sidekick. The movie introduces you to a wide variety of zombie life. From shopping at the local parts market (for arms) to dining at the local food joint. And while it might have all been there to provide comic relief, it was still pretty awesome. And one point they have to go pick him up a spare arm and that just isn't something you normally see in a movie.

Other monsters in the movie included werewolves and vampires. The best part about them is that they were neither sparkling nor taking off their shirt constantly. The one bad thing I do need to say about the movie is that it really felt like a rip off of The Dresden Files. And that isn't really a bad thing as far as the story goes, I just wish Dresden Files would have been able to stay on the air longer. I have read and re-read the books so many times that anything close to Dresden just feels like a cheap knock off. It was really too bad it didn't do more to distance itself from that franchise. Reading about the movie online, it says that the book is actually based on a comic so maybe I will have to check that out before I bash it too much.

Now for a quick zombie review. Only going to include some bullets since the zombies were not the main part of the story.

Zombie Summary:

Check back tomorrow for more zombie reviews as we keep moving forward in our crazy month of #undeadOctober!
