Day 18 - The Signal

Tonight's movie, while not exactly about zombies, is still on my list of zombie movies. Instead of humans dying, coming back to life, and trying to kill everyone. The infected in this film skip straight to trying to kill everyone. Has a similar story to Pontypool, which we watched earlier in the month. If I had to pick between them for which one I like more, I would pick Pontypool though.

In this movie, the infection comes from phones, TVs, and radios. It infects the host after only a few seconds of listening to the signal. The effects, however, are not quite as straight forward as the transmission. It basically shorts out the infected's brain and causes them to see the world around them differently. It also amplifies fear, anger, and paranoia. The extreme change in an infected's mind causes them to go crazy and begin killing everyone around them.

Even though it was not a traditional zombie movie, I still like this kind of zombie. I like the idea that if you strip the humanity away from a person, they become a killing machine. Like in the end, we are all just a nudge away from going completely insane. In the end, it doesn't really matter if they have a beating heart or not.

It is too bad that this movie never got turned into a sequel because I would have liked to see more of the aftermath. They made it appear that people could survive after receiving the signal and still maintain some of their sanity. It makes me wonder if society would have found some way around the fragile state of minds of everyone and reform into something different. One of the best things about these types of zombies is that since they are not dead, they could be cured much more easily or they could learn to live with their condition. So my review for the movie is that even though I didn't love the movie, I still really like the idea behind it. I would give this one a 3/5 and I would recommend checking it out.

Zombie Summary:
- Creation: Listening to the Signal
- Origin: Unknown
- Infection type: Sound
- Speed of Zombie: Normal
- Destruction: Similar to a normal human

The days keep ticking down, but we still have a lot to go so keep checking back for more zombie reviews!
